United Counties League - 25th November

Last week I made some predictions for the Premier Division North and I wanted to review how wrong I was!

AFC Mansfield v Belper United
Prediction 1-3 - Actual Result 1-1
I got off to a bad start here as this game finished 1-1 thanks to a late equaliser for the visitors. This is a positive result for the home side as their opponents are pushing for a playoff spot but they'll be bitterly disappointed to lose two points late on.

Eastwood v Loughborough Students
Prediction 2-0 - Actual Result 2-1
The first of my correct results but no score line as I hadn't predicted the visitors would find the net. They did but the points still went to the home side in a 2-1 win. It was an important with for Eastwood to keep them in touching distance of the playoff spots and with games in hand.

Heanor Town v Boston Town
Prediction 3-1 - Actual Result 0-0
This one was a bit of a disaster and way off the mark as the game finished 0-0. Boston will be pleased with a point as they extended their unbeaten run which now, after victory over Pinchbeck in the week, stands at five games. On the other hand, you have to feel the hosts will be disappointed not to take all three as they fall further behind the playoff chasers.

Lincoln United v Hucknall Town
Prediction 4-0 - Actual Result 3-0
Lincoln United kept up their pursuit of leaders Sherwood Colliery with a comfortable home win against second from bottom Hucknall Town. The three points leave The White eight points behind the leaders with two games in hand meaning, if both keep up their excellent form, the fixture in January could play a huge part in who takes control of the division. Hucknall, on the other hand, are just one point above basement side Pinchbeck having not won for seven matches.

Pinchbeck United v Sherwood Colliery
Prediction 0-6 - Actual Result 1-7
In truth this was a mismatch and the game was all but over early on and particularly at half time with the score 1-4. Sherwood continue their unbeaten start to the league campaign and are putting distance between themselves and the chasing sides. For Pinchbeck, this won't have been a game they expected to get anything from and the fixtures don't get much easier as they travel to second placed Melton this weekend.

Skegness Town v Newark and Sherwood United
Prediction 3-1 - Actual Result 2-1
This was a very important win for Skegness Town as it keeps them in one of the playoff spots but they do have Eastwood breathing down their necks with games in hand. For the visitors, this was a fifth game without a win and they would find themselves in danger at the bottom were it not for Pinchbeck and Hucknall finding points extremely hard to come by.

Sleaford Town v Melton Town
Prediction 2-3 - Actual Result 0-1
I predicted a cracker for this one but the visitors won't mind they keep themselves in second place and secured a fourth league win in a row, two of those at Sleaford's expense. The home side will, of course, be disappointed to lose out in this closely contested match and fall further away from the top five.

Wisbech Town v Kimberley Miners Welfare
Prediction 2-2 - Actual Result 1-1
As predicted, nothing could separate these two mid table sides as an 80th minute Coyle equaliser sent the visitors away with a point. It may still be early in the season but both sides appear to be playing for pride and the highest finish they can muster as neither seem like they will trouble the top or bottom of the division.

Predictions - 25-11-23

AFC Mansfield 1 v 0 Loughborough Students
Belper United 1 v 1 Heanor Town
Kimberley Miners Welfare 1 v 3 Lincoln United
Melton Town 4 v 0 Pinchbeck United
Newark and Sherwood United 0 v 2 Eastwood
Sherwood Colliery 5 v 0 Hucknall Town
Skegness Town 1 - 0 Deeping Rangers
Wisbech Town 1 - 1 Boston Town

No score lines exact but 6/8 results can't be bad, surely!
